The American Humane Society estimates that 9.6 million dogs and cats are euthanized in US shelters each year. Only 15% of dogs that enter shelters are reunited with their owners, and only 25% are adopted. Many of these are loving, adoptable pets who deserved better. I'm sure you will agree that this is a tragic situation and we are committed to doing our small part to make a difference.
Please take the time to view this short movie by Robert Valentine called In Hope: An Animal Shelter Story. Robert, a pre-veterinary student and vet technician at an animal shelter, started a photo-journal of unusual cases to share with other students. When he was able to work on an animal rights project for his social ethics class, he decided to turn his journal into a short movie, hoping to show what can happen to animals when people stop caring. The result is a powerful and heartbreaking commentary on shelter animals, pet overpopulation, and animal cruelty — and how these issues affect not only animals but people as well.

THE DOOR
Lost, lonely and afraid was how I came to be in this place,
But, now I feel 'sheltered' all around,
For the first time I've a clean bed, food and water,
New sights and smells abound.
There are many others like me here,
More come in every day.
I wonder how this place can hold so many,
It can be a little noisy, and I try not to be afraid.
There is a door, they say in this place
They say you can go through it and be free.
Where some even meet little children to play with,
That sure sounds so special to me!!
They say on the other side of this door is where the sun shines
Where you can run and play and even chase a ball.
Where you can bark and chase the butterflies
And nobody gets mad at all.
A place where you can feel safe and loved,
And it happens over and over again every day.
Where you will have your own special 'someone',
Who loves you and just wants to pet and play.
But first ... they say ... you must be chosen,
By those that come and seek.
A heart and home must first be opened,
Before that door can open for me.
Another door is also here,
Born of time allowed, and space so tight.
Warm arms, but sad hearts to carry you,
Where dreams and life float out of sight.
I worry ... there are so many of us,
And places and matching faces for only a few.
I want so badly to be chosen
I've so much love ... yearning to give it all to you.
My Chart is checked ... 'today' is my day,
Arms reach out to me.
I wag my tail and give a loving kiss ...
I pray it is that sunshine, I'm getting ready now to see ...
