The Lights are on!

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

The Lights are on now at Shadow's Rest.

We are happy to report that the lights are now on at
Shadow’s Rest!

Not only does that mean the electrical system is up and working -
but it also brings us another step closer to the finish line.
We will never be able to thank you enough
for all your help in making our dreams for the
elderly and special needs dogs of Rescue K911 come true.
We could not have done this without YOU!

As of today, January 29th, we are almost complete.
We are still in need of cabinetry, light fixtures, final trim & appliances.
 (a cost of $9,900).
We are so close, but do need your help to complete.

Once construction is done, we will be sending out invitations
for an Open House and Dedication Ceremony and want you to come.
It would mean the world to us!

Thank you so much for helping us build Shadow’s Rest!
Especially for Knuckles, LadyBug, Moses, Goldie, Cookie & Blackie,
the elderly dogs that now call it home - and those that will be moving in shortly.

Thank you for helping the homeless, and for
helping us build Shadow’s Rest!

Christmas at Shadow’s Rest

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

For sure we couldn’t end this year without updating you on the progress made at Shadow’s Rest.

Just last year we set out – embarking on a dream. To take an old run down  farmhouse and build a home for our elderly and special needs dogs. Month by month we have watched in amazement – this dream slowly become a reality for the dogs in our care.  Truly a labor of love, and now at 95% complete, we stand back to call it nothing short of amazing!

Now this Christmas, LadyBug, Knuckles, Moses, LeRoy, Cookie, Blackie & Spot call it home.

More will be coming in once these little ones get settled and used to their new surroundings.  From the kennels to a warm and cozy home of their very own, where they can come and go as they please, we have never seen so many smiling faces and wagging tails. Thank you Loraine for helping make this dream come true for our rescued dogs through all your love & support.
♥Special thanks to those that came and donated their time and painting skills, to those that bought Bingo tickets, sold Tshirts, parked cars, made a quilt, raffled an Auburn Football, ordered a brick and most of all to our wonderful kind donor who matched
gifts to Shadow’s Rest.
You made this possible!

Please watch the following short video – come inside Shadow’s Rest –  and meet these elderly dogs and see them in their new home.

Merry Christmas & Thank you!!!
Larry & Loraine
& all the little ones of Shadow’s Rest!

Special thanks to our wonderful volunteers who came and decorated Shadow’s Rest for us.  They did an awesome job, and what a wonderful surprise!
It has been many years since we’ve been able to have a tree!
Thank you dear ones

Shadow’s Walk of Friends – Updated Video

Updated Video/November 2011

As we round the corner and come into the home stretch of our most urgent of projects, our Shadow’s Rest home for our elderly and special needs dogs, we wanted to bring you up to date on the progress we have been making.

Thanks to your generosity and support, Brick orders, and recent Kozy Quilt Fundraiser, the Septic System is now in place, the final  A/C-Heating Unit has been installed and the last of the insulation is being installed in the attic.  Everything is coming together nicely and Shadow’s Rest is certainly looking
so beautiful and more than we ever dreamed possible!

The final stages will be the flooring, plumbing fixtures, cabinets and appliances.  As we have been getting bids and prices on these we have come to sadly realize that these last items are our most expensive and will be the things that will have to wait for now. We have gone ahead and had the flooring installed in the Doggie Room making this room almost complete, so our elderly can move in soon.

We are hoping, and earnestly praying that a miracle will happen this Holiday Season and we can make it over that finish line and complete Shadow’s Rest for our special needs dogs, like Chip (bone cancer), Patch (age 15, our eldest resident) who now needs a wheelchair, Goldie who is blind and many other deserving elderly residents of Rescue K911.

If you would like to order a brick to go in Shadow’s Walk of Friends, you will find the brick order form here.

Thank you for helping the homeless and for helping us build Shadow’s Rest.

Larry & Loraine & all the little ones of Rescue K911

PS. Special thanks go out to Mary Jo Giffin, the winner of the Kozy K9 Quilt.  In her kindness Mary Jo donated the quilt back to Rescue K911 with the stipulation that it hang in Shadow’s Rest.  Thank you Mary Jo, we have picked the perfect place, and the Kozy K9 Quilt will indeed hang in the Doggie Room for all to enjoy.

A Happy Reunion – A Year Later

These former homeless siblings, rescued at a dumpster location here in Alabama, were fortunate enough to be chosen to travel up to our wonderful friends at Dog Bless Rescue in beautiful Victoria, BC.  Now a year later they have reunited for this great picture.  Please meet again big brother Oscar, and little Sisters Luna and Katie.  (Pixie their other sibling couldn’t make it to the reunion.)  We will never be able to express how wonderful it feels when we get pictures like these of happy dogs who have what every dog wants more than anything – a home of their own.  We are blessed indeed to have Kim Oldham, and Dog Bless Rescue give our rescued dogs this wonderful opportunity, and want to thank those families that have opened their home to them.

Thank you Kim, and Thank you Dog Bless Rescue!

HomeComing Day for DeeDee

DeeDee goes home!

We are so happy to report that our little DeeDee, now known as Brittany went to her forever home Monday night. We thank Jenny & Mike for opening their heart and home to one of our most precious rescues. This little girl was found abandonded on a doorstop on a 300 acre property. We don’t know how she survived or how she got there but so glad she did. She is a survivor and now has a loving forever family! We thank everyone that had a part in her rescue and new life! Thank you everyone for helping the homeless like DeeDee/Brittany.

FFA Opelika High School

Special thanks go out to the FFA Club of Opelika High School who came out to help Rescue K911. They fed and watered the dogs and cleaned the kennels and dog bowls, cleaned the puppy yard, etc. What a wonderful help to us and we appreciate them so much. October kicks off their annual ‘Pitch-In-For Pups’ Campaign where they collect dog food and much needed supplies for the Rescue. What a wonderful help and such a blessing to us.

Thank you so much. Go DAWGS!!!!!
