Ace, Amber & Aussie

Ace, Amber & Aussie

We can’t believe it has been two years since we rescued these three little pups,  Ace, Amber & Aussie along the rural roadside.  Looking back into our files, we found this little video of their rescue.  We have now  updated it to include how they look today up in their new homes in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.  We are so thankful to Dog Bless Rescue (www.dogbless.ca)  for helping these precious pups, along with so many others, find such wonderful loving forever families.  Please watch this short little video and see their amazing journey…from finding themselves abandoned without hope –  to now having such wonderful happy lives.  To see this sure makes all the work we do here at Rescue K911  worthwhile.  Many thanks to each one of you for all your love & support to us, as it makes a difference in the lives we save.  And thank you Dog Bless Rescue for reaching out to us & giving some of our rescued dogs such a wonderful opportunity for a better life. We are certainly blessed indeed!

An Angel named…Holli

Happy Birthday, Holli

There are so many times in rescuing homeless dogs you can get discouraged.  At times the burden seems so heavy and oft times you feel so very alone in your mission.  Day after day you experience first hand the bad things that some do to our innocent animals.  But then…but then…God sends a ‘little Angel’ your way to brighten your day,  restore your faith, and give you hope for another day. Such was the case when we met Holli, a precious young lady who instead of Birthday Gifts for herself, raised funds and supplies for the homeless dogs of Rescue K911. What a pleasure it was to meet this wonderful family, and how thankful we were to to receive such needful gifts that were collected & given to Rescue K911.

“Thank you so much Holli!!!  May you be blessed today as you have certainly blessed us!!!  Happy Birthday, and Bow-Wow from all the doggies!!!”

Reagan & Juno - Now Forever Friends!

We were so happy to meet Reagan and Nancy and are so thankful they opened their hearts and home to one of Rescue K911′s most precious dogs, Juno.  Juno…such a sweet, smart wonderful dog with so much love to give, and we couldn’t be happier that she will now have such a wonderful new loving home.

“Thank you Reagan!  That Juno will bring you many many years of love & happiness is our prayer. We can see she has already made herself at home!”

Cootie – My Friend – In Loving Memory

“Cootie – I will love you always”

Cootie…she was my best friend, always by my side, always protecting me, always there for me for over 13 years.

Loraine Weaver

Two weeks after we moved here to Alabama from Florida she just showed up one day under our farmhouse. A sweet little homeless pup, all legs. She was my girl.  It soon became evident though that Cootie was not like other dogs.  Instead of running up steps, she could only hop.  X Rays revealed that she had no hip & ball socket,  and would not be eligible for any type of corrective surgery, but she could have pain management to help her along.  She always did well, always active, always running and stayed so very fit.  Up until a couple of months ago, she began to struggle.  Many trips to the vets for more & more pain management tools to help make her more comfortable, some of which she welcomed, most she did not but took it graciously like the lady she was.  Then yesterday Cootie started vomiting up blood and started having a hard time breathing.  An emergency trip to the vet revealed Cootie was suffering.  As I looked at her little body there, hips jutting out that had caused her so much pain, I did not want to lose her, but I  would not be selfish, nor want my best friend to suffer any more. After making one of the most agonizing decisions of my life,  I would not leave her, I  held her close, told her that I loved her over & over again, and was there with her as the light went out of her eyes. She was my best friend.  My life will never be the same for her coming into it, nor will it be the same with her leaving.  ”

“I will see you again Cootie…please wait for Mama at the Rainbow Bridge. I will love you forever!”

The following is a poem that has given me so much comfort.  Am hoping it does you too, those of you that have also had to make such a heartbreaking decision out of love for your little ones.

From Friend to Friend

You’re giving me a special gift, so sorrowfully endowed,

And through these last few cherished days,

Your courage makes me proud.

Real love is knowing when your best friend is in pain,

And understanding earthly acts,

Will only be in vain.

So, looking deep into your eyes, beyond, into your soul,

I see in you the magic,

That will once more make me whole.

The strength that you possess, is why I look to you today,

To do this thing that must be done,

For it is the only way.

That strength is why I followed you, and chose you as my friend,

And why I’ve loved you all these years…

My partner til the end.

Please understand what this gift you’re giving means to me.

It gives me back the strength I’ve lost,

And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf, for this is what friends do,

And know that what you do is right,

For I believe it too.

So, one last time, I breathe your scent, and through your hand I feel,

The courage that is within you…

To grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here, dear friend, and let me run.

Once more a strong and steady,

My pain & struggle done.

And don’t despair my passing, for I won’t be far away.

Forever here, within your heart,

And memory I will stay.

I’ll be there watching over you, your ever faithful friend.

And in your memories I’ll run…

A young pup once again….Love, Cootie

Shadow’s Rest – July Update

Monday, July 12th, 2010

We have met with several builders about building Shadow’s Rest and unfortunately it soon became evident that with current construction costs, we were talking about an expense somewhere around $260,000-$300,000.  Unfortunately, this was way above what we had anticipated, and way above our financial abilities.  Rescue K911 has never been one to go into heavy debt, and we didn’t want to strap the rescue with high debt  and large monthly payments.  Yet we have needed this building for so long.  Feeling so disappointed…what do we do now??  Go to Plan B!

Farmhouse - Future Site of Shadow's Rest

Located on our K911 property is a 100 year old farmhouse.  It is pretty good size, but has sat vacant, only used for storage, and in disrepair for a number of years.  We could see the potential though and the location was perfect for Shadow’s Rest.  It would need to be completely gutted, new roofing, new electrical, new windows, plumbing, etc.  More space could also be added on in the rear of the building.  Pencil to paper soon showed us that it was do-able and would cost between $100,000-$120,000.  This was more within our financial reach.  Plus we could see there was a lot of work that we could do ourselves and with volunteer labor.  Also, with the finances we have already received (special thanks to everyone that has already donated to Shadow’s Rest) it would allow us to begin construction right away, and possibly have a couple of rooms ready for our elderly
little ones by winter!

To makes this even more exciting, we have had a wonderful donor come forward who is willing to match dollar for dollar all gifts given towards Shadow’s Rest building project throughout 2010.  What a blessing!  We have received your calls and letters and know you are just as excited as we are about this project. Some of you have even made pledges letting us know what you’d like to do for Shadow’s Rest for the year.  How heartwarming it is to realize that with all of us working— joined together, we can make this a reality for our little ones!
We can’t thank you enough.

Will you please join us today in making this dream a reality?

If you would like to help us in any way, please let us know.  Whether it be by finances,
materials, or labor—any gift is so greatly needed and so very appreciated!!!
Thank you for helping us build Shadow’s Rest!

I am a Animal Rescuer

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

I am a animal rescuer

I Am an Animal Rescuer
My job is to assist all creatures
I was born with the need to fulfill their needs
I take in new family members without plan or forethought
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times
and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body

I have “Animal Friends” and “friends who have animals”
I don’t often use the word “pet”
I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches
I will hand raise a field mouse
And make friends with a vulture
I know of no creature unworthy of my time

We may be master of the animals,
But the animals have mastered themselves
Something people still haven’t learned

War and abuse makes me hurt for the world
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind

We are a quiet, but determined army
And we are making a difference ever day

There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan
Nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a puppy play
Who only days ago, was too weak to eat

I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full!

In the game of life, I have already won!
